Art in the Afternoon

MUMOK Museum, Museumsplatz 1, 1070

This movement was initiated in the United States between1975 and 1985. This exhibition of the rich collection of Peter and Irene Ludwig, is the largest presentation since the 1980s.
As a deliberate counter to the “purism” of the art of the 1960s, the 1970s feminist artists like Miriam Schapiro, Joyce Kozloff, Valerie Jaudon, and Robert Kushner aimed to bring colour, formal diversity, and emotion back into art, with oriental-style mosaics, monumental textile collages, paintings, installations, and performances. Various ornamental traditions, from the Islamic world to Native Americans to Art Deco, were incorporated in their works, opening up a view beyond geographical and historical boundaries.

We will meet in the MUMOK foyer and enjoy the exhibition together.

(This is not a guided tour! If there is a lot of interest (more than 10 sign-ups a tour guide can be organized at an additional cost.)
