AWA Vienna is on a mission to make a difference for those in need throughout Austria.
Each year, AWA members select a new non-profit organization. Through a team of club volunteers, we organize educational programs and extra-curricular activities to raise funds for a designated charity.
2018 target foundation: verein wiener frauenhÄuser
For 2018, we are proud to support Verein Wiener Frauenhäuser, a non-profit organization that provides women and children with a safe haven from domestic violence. According to the United Nations, one in five women worldwide experience some form of physical or emotional abuse from a significant other or family member. For many women who are new to Austria there is no-one or a support system to turn to from domestic violence or the threat of violence. Verein Wiener Frauenhäuser offers a beacon of hope to these women. Each year the organization serves more than 1,200 women and children across their four shelters. Woolly Hats For the Homeless
Meeting 11 October, 8 November and 29 November where we will close the project with a small celebration, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in the Clubhouse.
Calling all knitters to join us on a project to knit warm winter woolly hats for the homeless and needy. Our goal is to knit 111 hats as Christmas gifts for the homeless and needy attending the Franziskaner soup kitchen in 1010 Vienna. Any donations of spare wool/yarn are also most welcome. Please bring finished hats and wool/yarn to the clubhouse, the coffee mornings at Sluka or the cocktail event at the Marriott. If you have time to knit but no wool/yarn, there should be some in the clubhouse. Novice knitters welcome to join us and to learn how to knit hats. Woolly Hats For the Homeless

Cooking Dinner in a homeless shelter
A new outreach activity: a small group of us will help prepare an evening meal for 55 homeless residents. A homeless guide will source the ingredients, plan the menu and coordinate our evening tasks: preparing and serving a hot meal and clearing up afterwards. Our contribution is €12 per AWA helper .
